Getting Ready For The School Year
Ahhhh, Summertime, when the livings easy. No crazy schedules, sleeping in all morning. I love this time of year because there is no hustle and bustle. Things are laid back and we just chill and do what we want on our time. The school year isn’t anywhere in my mind. I don’t even want to think about it.
I’m not looking forward to summertime ending. Going back to reality is not something I enjoy. I would like to live in dream-no school-land forever, thanks.
I am not a morning person and getting up early will be rough for me. My kids are the worst too! They act like a slug moving in tar when its time to get ready in the morning for school.
I’ve put together a good plan to try and avoid the going back to school blues for the kids and for you. This is exactly what we’re going to do and I think it will help you easily transition back into the school schedule too.
Two Weeks Before School
Our bedtime routine right now is pretty laid back. We watch movies until pretty late and go to bed after that. For the most part, we are in bed by 9:30-ish.
About two weeks before they start back, you should try and put your kids to bed an hour earlier than usual. Usually, we go to bed around 9:30 so for me, I will put mine to bed at 8:30 pm. I know my kids won’t fall asleep until about 9 pm so if I shoot for 8:30, this will give them enough time to get sleepy. Kids need to adjust to an earlier bedtime or things will not go well for you!
In the mornings, I will get my kids out of bed by 7:30 am so again, it won’t be as shocking to them when it is time for school.
Getting Kids Excited For School
The school year is just around the corner and the kids are starting to feel it coming. How can we get the kids excited about the new school year?
I have been buying them little knick-knacks for school. The other day, we went to Walmart and we got some new pencil cases. This was super simple but it made my kids really happy.
Next time we get to the store, I’m planning on buying them new cool water bottles. They already have things in their mind that they want so we will focus on getting those. They can’t wait for their new water bottles!
What about new backpacks? This is another item that gets the kids really excited to go back! My kids love getting new backpacks.
If you’re on a budget, then don’t worry about going crazy shopping. If their bags aren’t worn out, they can reuse those again. I would focus on getting supplies like pencils, folders, sharpeners, etc. This way, they still will feel excited but you’re also staying on budget.
Have you ever tried the dollar store for supplies? They have great stationary supplies for cheap and they are super cute!
School supplies can get pricey if you’re not careful so just be smart about what you actually need.
Back To School Clothes
My kids and most kids grow out of their clothes so fast! I need to hit up Target for some clothes shopping. Usually, in the next few weeks, they will have sales for back to school shopping. I would wait until you see the sales before going and buying clothes.
We all know clothes get pricey fast, especially as your kids get older! Heaven help me!
My kids love to get new clothes. What about yours? Clothes make them happy and they feel an extra boost of confidence. I actually feel this same way when getting new clothes so this makes sense to me.
I hope this was a helpful post on how to get your kids ready for the coming school year. Are there other things you do to get your kids excited? I would love to know your thoughts on your going back to school routine.
