Weekly Grocery Routine
I have learned over the years that going grocery shopping can be hard. If I don’t have a clue what I will be making for dinner then I will spend way more money then needed at the store. I have been married for 13 years and I remember when we were first married, we would go out to eat a ton because I had no idea how to cook. We wasted so much money going out to eat. Over the years though, I figured out some things and my weekly routines are pretty easy now.
I would love to help you moms out there to save money on your grocery bills. Here are my tips to help you.
Every Sunday evening, I start brainstorming on things to make for dinner during the week. I look at all the ingredients that are in the recipes and see what I already have in my fridge/pantry. I take all this information and I make my grocery list of things I need for the recipes that I don’t already have. I also look to see what fruit we need in the house. My kids are big fruit eaters so I need to make sure at the beginning of the week I have enough to last us until Friday.
I usually only cook 4 times a week. Fridays are either left over days or we will get something to eat outside of the home.
Mondays are my grocery shopping days. I like to go without kids but that never actually happens. I always have to go with my youngest and he is definitely challenging. He refuses to sit in the cart so I don’t even try to put him in since I try to avoid scenes at all cost! The kid has lungs that can break glass!
Take that grocery list with you and keep your eyes on the prize. Only buy what is on the list. Don’t stray away to isles that aren’t on your list of items you need! Sometimes I even do this and I end up buying things I don’t need!
Once a month I go to Costco and get the big things we need. I buy chicken and ground turkey and toiletries we need. This trip obviously costs more than just going to the grocery store but it all evens out.
During the week, I probably only end up spending $40-$50 dollars for a family of 5! That ends up being maybe $200/month on food from the grocery store. Costco is around $120/month so all in all that is a total of roughly $320/month! What do you think? Pretty good right? I always try to stick to this budget.
I want to know what types of routines you have during the week with your meals and groceries! I can always use some tips and tricks to stay on budget! Please let me know in the comments!
